Child Birth Class with Rome Kanapi

This is my first pregnancy and I am now on my 6th month. As a first time parent, I knew nothing about going through labor and delivery, but my husband and I did some research.

Ever since I met my husband, he is always with me wherever I go. He is like my personal bodyguard. He never allows me to go to the mall or some place else alone. We always make a deal, either he will come with me or I will bring my mom or my sister with me. I am SO lucky to have a protective and supportive husband.

That's why now I am afraid to go to the labor room alone. Being with myself this time is frightening for me, although I can be with my husband during delivery. That's why we decided to attend a child birth class.

At first, we were confused between Rome Kanapi and Chiqui Brosas. They are both certified child birth instructors here in the Philippines. But since we already met Ms. Rome Kanapi from the past events that we attended, we decided to attend her class and confirm our slot on Nov. 3.

Here are our scheduled class details:

* It was a 6 day class (3 saturday afternoon class and 3 sunday morning class)
*Located at Ateneo University, Katipunan ave., Quezon City
*The total cost per couple was Php4,500
*We need to bring a yoga mat, throw pillow, food, water and wear comfortable clothes
*We also have to make a one week diary of all our food intake

Class Outline:

Day 1: Introduction to Prepared Child Birth Class
Day 2: Signs of True Labor
Day 3: Phase 3 Transition
Day 4: Stage 2 Delivery of the Baby
Day 5: Medications in Child Birth
Day 6: Breastfeeding, Diapering, Cord Care and Bathing

We are from Cavite and driving from here to there was almost a 2-hour drive. Travelling in my condition was really hard because I always needed to pee. Our effort and time was really worth it because my husband and I learned a lot from this class and I had a blast meeting new moms and hearing all their wonderful stories about their pregnancy.

My Journey Through Pregnancy

The day that I found out I'm pregnant, I was thrilled and excited. A new chapter of my life has started. Thinking I am gonna be a mom soon, "Oh no, I can't go clubbing and drinking cocktails anymore". : ) But at the back of my mind, I thought, being a mom is a blessing. I will do my best and give all that I have.

Dra. Rhodora Del Rosario-Bustos of Makati Medical Center was my OB for the last 2 years. I am comfortable with her because she doesn't only treat me as a patient but as a friend /daughter as well.

My first pre-natal check up was during my 6th week of pregnancy. She told me all the do's and don'ts and all the foods I have to avoid.

At my 23 weeks I was up for CAS or Congenital Anomaly Scan with my OB. That was the moment when I realized all the hard work that I've done really paid off, when I saw my baby for the first time.

My 8th month of pregnancy with my very handsome and very supportive husband : )

My husband is my therapist, my yoga instructor and my bodyguard during my pregnancy. He supports me every time I'm in pain and he is also the reason why I didn't gain much weight during my pregnancy. He always watches the food that I eat especially sweets. For me it's a sweet and thoughtful thing because he doesn't want me and our baby to suffer when it's time for delivery. It's hard especially when we go to the mall and see all the sweets I want to eat. But sometimes he gives me a cheat day and I can only eat a small a portion.

I'm not a fan of third trimester! This is the stage where I felt most tired and exhausted because of all the weight I'm carrying, and all the walking. I experienced a lot of back pains, headaches, and leg cramps.

I will be giving birth soon at Makati Medical Center with my baby boy. Hoping for a safe delivery.
